Perhaps the best known of the singing cowboys, Roy would eventually assume the moniker King Of The Cowboys as he featured in over one hundred westerns during his career. Originally a member of The Sons Of The Pioneers singing group, Roy managed to translate his popularity across a wide variety of mediums. He was a leading star of Hollywood, television, radio and recordings, and earned three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of his broad appeal. Although Roy left The Sons Of The Pioneers in 1937, he ensured they appeared in many of his films during the 1950s, with the result that their popularity increased as well. |
